Pentecost 8 – The death of John – Mark 6: 14-29

This passage from the Gospel of Mark draws us into a historically tragic drama which marks the end of John the Baptist’s life.  The scene has characters filled with conflicting motivations and desires which ultimately leads to the beheading of John.  Yet surrounding this passage the work of Jesus continues on.  So let us ponder the Word in the context also of our own lives and world.
